The fifth generation of the iconic Pinguin Parker waterproof jacket is here again. Popular with the general public for its cut and the option to add an insulating layer. By changing the materials, this jacket has achieved a weight saving of 35% (weight size M - 530 g).
The lightweight two-layer laminate with a hydrophilic Gelanots membrane from Japanese manufacturer Toyota with taping at all seams will keep you dry whether you are exposed to rain, wind or sweating during a strenuous climb. Stressed areas such as the shoulders, forearms and waist are made from a tough Nylon 6.6 fabric for added durability.
External pockets have waterproof YKK zippers. They are large enough for comfortable use with gloves, and their placement allows them to be used even with a climbing harness or pack with a hip belt on.
The hood is stretched to fit a climbing helmet underneath. It can be adjusted in two directions - at the hem and horizontally at ear level. This prevents cold from the outside and allows a comfortable view. It does not restrict the much needed peripheral vision. The hood can be rolled up to the collar in case you don't need it right now.
The Gelanots laminated membrane fabric has a water column of 20,000 mm and a breathability of 25,000 g H2O/m2. The simple explanation for this is that if you kneel down in the mud, for example, assuming a contact area of 10 cm2, you can weigh 200 kg and the membrane will not leak.
The two-layer laminate then means that the membrane is laminated on the top fabric and protected from mechanical damage on the inside by a lightweight mesh lining. It also keeps the membrane from sticking to sweaty skin and makes the jacket very comfortable to wear, even with short sleeves.
There is a snow belt at the waist of the jacket, which prevents heat loss when fastened. You can also completely detach it from the jacket if you don't want to use it.
