Blockers or rope clamps are mechanical devices used for rope climbing in mountaineering, caving and other vertical adventures. They are also used for self-protection in difficult terrain or for rescuing people at heights. Most blockers are designed for ropes with a diameter of 8 - 13 mm. Some types can also be used on steel ropes.
