Like its sister HM51R Ruby V2.0, the HM50R V2. 0 has undergone a number of improvements. This is the second generation of these headlamps and if you're interested in the differences between them, check out the blog post.
TheFenix HM50R V2.0 headlamp is the ideal companion for a variety of sporting activities, outdoor excursions, and home and work. It offers upto 700 lumens of power, a range of 115 meters and a red light. It can be powered by either the RCR123A Li-ion battery (included) or the disposable CR123A battery (limited to a max output of 130 lumens). The RCR123A battery can be recharged via the USB-C connector directly in the headlamp.
The light source is a high-end Cree XP-G3 S4 LED with a daylight tint (6000 K). The control button on the side of the headlamp also incorporates an indicator LED which, when pressed, shows the battery charge status.
The headlamp is equipped with a battery life extension function. With prolonged use, it gradually reduces the power in small increments to achieve a longer light duration (see endurance chart).
Endurance graph of the Fenix HM50R V2.0 headlamp
The all-metal construction ensures high durability, optimal cooling and is also fully waterproof according to IP68 standard up to a depth of 2 meters underwater. The practicality of the headlamp is enhanced by the ability to remove the light from the head holder and use it as a small pocket flashlight.
All flashlight parameters (luminous flux, battery life, waterproofness, range and shock resistance) are measured in accordance with ANSI/NEMA FL 1-2009.
There may be a black insulating cap on the battery inside the flashlight at the factory. Remove it from the battery pack before first use.
When switched off, the headlamp switches to the last used white light mode by holding the button for 0.5 seconds.
The off headlamp is switched to red light by pressing the button twice quickly.
The headlamp is switched off by holding the button for 0.5 seconds.
When the headlamp is switched on, the power modes can be cycled through in the sequence 30 - 130 - 400 - 700 lumens (when switched on to white light) or red - red flash (when switched on to red light) with short button presses. The flashlight has a memory and always switches on in the last set mode (only valid for white light).
Overheat protection: operation on the highest mode is limited to 1 minute, then the output is gradually reduced to approx. 500 lumens over 5 minutes. If the internal temperature of the lamp rises above 60°C, it will automatically start to reduce the output further in gradual steps until the temperature stabilizes. As soon as the temperature of the lamp drops below 60°C, the power will increase again gradually.
Battery indication: after a short press of the button (the headlamp must be switched off) the LED indicator in the button is activated. If the indicator LED is green, the battery is more than 80% charged. Green flashing indicates 50-80% capacity. If the light is red, the battery is charged to 20-50%. Red flashing indicates less than 20% of the battery capacity remains. The indication only works correctly with RCR123A / 16340 rechargeable batteries.
Charging. After charging the flashlight, reseal the charging connector with the rubber cap. Charging a fully discharged battery takes approximately 1.5 hours. In an emergency, the flashlight can be used while charging, but only the lowest white mode and red modes will be available.
Low battery warning: if the battery voltage drops below the set level, the headlamp will automatically switch to lower power modes. If the headlamp is already switched to the lowest power mode and the battery is critically low, the indicator in the button will flash red. However, the headlamp will continue to illuminate until the battery is completely drained. Note: the low battery warning is calibrated to the voltage of rechargeable Li-ion batteries only.
To lock the headlamp against accidental switching on.rt speed, the electrical contact is broken and the headlamp cannot be switched on. The button can also be locked electronically - when the headlamp is switched off, hold the button down for 3 seconds. After locking, the flashlight flashes red. To unlock, hold the button again for 3 seconds.
