Based on several years of use in the field and thanks to the suggestions of many users, Rab has come up with an improved version of the Kinetic Alpine jacket. Small additions have been implemented and the result is the Kinetic Alpine 2.0. It is a soft, stretchable and breathable jacket with a membrane and taped seams. The water column reaches 10,000 mm and the jacket has taped seams and reinforced panels in mechanically stressed areas.
The overall concept of the Kinetic Alpine 2.0 remains the same as its predecessor, but differs in the materials used. The base of the jacket is still the three-layer Proflex™ laminate, which consists of two knitted fabrics and a polyurethane membrane between them. The knitted fabric is much softer and more flexible than the woven fabric, which is why the Kinetic Alpine 2.0 is already much softer and stretchier to the touch than conventional waterproof jackets.
The outer knit is knitted as tightly as possible to ensure good mechanical resistance. The inner layer, on the other hand, has the structure and material of a functional T-shirt - ensuring fast sweat wicking. It's essentially a functional t-shirt, a lightweight windbreaker and a waterproof jacket all in one.
The first change from the previous Kinetic Alpine is that the Proflex™ membrane knits in the Kinetic Alpine 2.0 are made from recycled polyester. In doing so, Rab is fulfilling its core philosophy of giving maximum consideration to environmental protection and the growing demands of sustainable development.
The second, and at first glance more visible change, is the addition of more durable material in more exposed areas. The hood, shoulders, hips and arms are reinforced with a higher-weight woven nylon to provide greater abrasion resistance.
In terms of individual accessories, the Kinetic Alpine 2.0 retains two large side pockets perched high enough to be accessible with the waist belt fastened, an internal zippered pocket, a full-length but new two-way waterproof YKK, Velcro sleeve drawcords, and a hood large enough to fit a helmet underneath. The hood has a front drawcord as well as a drawcord at the peak. There is also a drawstring around the waist.
With its softness, flexibility, 10,000 mm water column and 35,000 g/m2 breathability in 24 hours, the Kinetic Alpine 2.0 is the ideal jacket for low- and high-frequency activities throughout the year. It finds its use in the changeable conditions of spring and autumn, when temperatures fluctuate and when showers alternate with clear skies.
Thehigh breathability ensures that you don't have to take it off when temperatures rise. In winter, it can serve as an excellent outer protection against wind and wet snow, and in summer it can also be used as a reliable outer layer in short showers. The reinforced panels and slightly higher weight, however, make the Kinetic Alpine 2.0 especially suited to activities that place higher demands on the material and require greater durability.
The Kinetic Alpine 2.0 is thus fully applicable for winter and summer climbing, on the ferrata or on the ski slopes, where the Kinetic Alpine 2.0 trousers will definitely be used.
For activities such as hiking, running or cross-country skiing, the Kinetic Alpine 2.0 will of course also serve, but it is worth considering whether a lighter model might be more suitable for these activities. Kinetic2.0.
