Sleeping bag Rab Mythic Ultra 360

Extended version for figures up to 200 cm.

In 2018, Rab showed off the almost perfect Mythic 400 sleeping bag . However, the Rab Mythic Ultra 360 is a complete game changer and a great example of what can be achieved through the relentless development of new technologies. Normally, 360 grams of down would not be enough for -8°C thermal comfort. However, Rab has developed Thermo Ionic Lining Technology (TILT), which lines the inside of the sleeping bag.

      Thermo Ionic Lining Technology (TILT)

This is groundbreaking protection for the most demanding users who count every gram but don't want to compromise on thermal comfort.

In short, the individual fibres of the fabric are coated with an extremely thin layer of titanium, which helps reflect the user's radiated heat back to the body to increase thermal comfort without compromising the breathability of the fabric or increasing the overall weight of the sleeping bag.

In laboratory testing, TILT technology has been shown to increase the efficiency of a sleeping bag by up to 32% compared to a model with conventional fabric with the same amount of down. The thermal camera shows that the external temperature of the sleeping bag without TILT technology is 8 °C warmer than that of the Mythic 400, confirming the higher heat loss of the "classic sleeping bag".

      Made in the UK

It's nearly 40 years since Rab Carrington began hand-sewing the first sleeping bag to bear his name in a small house in Sheffield. The first designs were based on his mountain experiences. The idea was to create quality, lightweight and warm sleeping bags that would serve well in the mountains. That's the kind of thing Rab does - lightweight and reliable.

He thinks about the details, comes up with new materials. Like when he first used Pertex fabric in the 90s, which still makes the most durable down products or waterproof clothing that you pack into a small package. We're talking, in short, about gear you'd rather repair than throw away.

Rab has long been one of the absolute world leaders in the development and production of down products. Rab sleeping bags are filled in a factory in Derbyshire, UK. This ensures absolute control that the sleeping bags have never been improperly stored or compressed.

      Rab Mythic Ultra 360

You will hardly find a better sleeping bag on the market with such extremely low weight, thermal comfort and technical sophistication. The Mythic Ultra 360 finds a place where every gram counts, but you don't want to lose out on comfort. The perfect choice for ultra-long treks, adventure races and all kinds of mountaineering activities where speed, efficiency and lightweight equipment are paramount!

Theouter fabric of the sleeping bag is made of the lightest material used today - 7D nylon. Despite its light weight, it offers high strength, wind resistance, packability and perfect breathability.. The inside of the sleeping bag is made of the same 7D nylon, but with TILT technology. Sleeping under the sun and morning dew will not be a problem for the sleeping bag.

The construction and shape of the sleeping bag

Despite its extremely light weight, the manufacturer has not compromised on space. On the contrary, skinny guys will love how much space there is inside, but even guys with big shoulders and 95 kg can fit in it without a problem! In order to save as much weight as possible, the sleeping bag has "only" a half-way, two-way YKK zipper. It ends at hip level and is insulated inside with a feather-filled flap. The zipper is only on the left side.

From 2019 Rab uses a new innovative design for all sleeping bags and especially different shapes of the chambers - they are not straight but V-shaped. Thanks to this, it was possible to take full advantage of the properties of the down, preventing cold spots and greater movement of the filling in the chambers. This allows the feathers to stay in the centre of the chambers and thus ensure warmth is maintained throughout the night.

      Nikwax hydrophobic down

The sleeping bag is filled with the highest quality hydrophobic goose down from Nikwax with a 900 cuin fill. This gives the sleeping bag an incredible, fluffy feel. The hydrophobic treatment of the down tolerates moisture better, dries faster and regains its full loft. Of course, the down is R.D.S. certified.

      Mythic Ultra sleeping bag features

Rab thought primarily about the design and technical details of the sleeping bag. The innovative design of the chambers limits the much unwanted movement of the down. Despite its light weight, the sleeping bag is very spacious. The hood and the perfect, shaped inner collar are technically well thought out. Of course, everything can be conveniently pulled down.

      Shaped inner collar

The foot box, which is shaped like a kind of fin, is a great feature. Thanks to the trapezoidal design of the chambers, you have a lot of leg room while eliminating cold spots.

The Rab'scomfort temperature is newly measured according to EN1357:2016. But of course we are all different, so the temperatures quoted here should be taken more as a guide to the appropriate choice of sleeping bag. The EN1357:2016 standard is based on the parameters of a standard male - 25 years, 173 cm, 73 kg and a standard female - 25 years, 160 cm and 60 kg and the temperatures quoted are a cross-section of a series of measurements from the upper limit of temperature where a person is able to sleep all night without waking up to the extreme temperature which determines the minimum temperature at which a person can survive. Rab states:

      • acomfortable temperature of -2 °C ( the ideal temperature from which to choose a sleeping bag)
      • alimiting temperature of -8 °C ( the temperature at which a standard man can stay awake for 8 hours without waking up)
      • anextreme limit of -27 °C ( should be taken as a guide to how the sleeping bag would work in an emergency situation. Not as a recommended use case. It refers to the temperature at which a standard woman can stay for 6 hoursn no risk of death from hypothermia).
      • In addition, Rab states a "Rab limit" of -8 °C. This is based on our own and athletes' experience and is taken as a reasonable limit for the usability of the sleeping bag.
