Warm layers of clothing don't usually do well with active movement and more sweating. When you're in this state and it gets a bit windy, you're cold even when you're bundled up. That used to be the case, but now there's the Rab VR Summit Jacket, the successor to the proven Rab Alpha Direct Jacket.
It's been developed to be as breathable a warm-up layer as possible, while also protecting against the wind and wicking sweat away quickly. How did Rab do it? The top protective layer of this jacket is Pertex® Quantum with a DWR water repellent treatment. It is 100% windproof, yet easily wicks water vapor.
The thermal insulation is a revolutionary brushed quick-drying polyamide that also actively insulates against the cold. Compared to standard fleece, it is twice as breathable for water vapour and a third more packable at the same weight.
